Biography

Since 1964, Munira Hamud Mutran has been an English-language Literatures Professor at the University of São Paulo, where she achieved her Master’s degree (1970) and PhD (1977). After performing her Postdoctoral research at the Royal Holloway College (1994) and at the Middlesex University (1996), in England, she defended her full professorship thesis (2000). During her faculty activities, including research and community assistance, she has established several affiliations with Brazilian and foreign universities and associations. She has established partnerships to promote Irish Studies, main focus of her bibliographic production and teaching. She is the founder of Brazilian Association of Irish Studies (ABEI) and its president until 2008. She is co-editor of ABEI Journal - the Brazilian Journal of irish Studies and co-editor of the “Lectures” series, published by the W. B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies — USP, of which she is the head of. She has participated in countless events in Brazil and abroad, including invitations to the congresses’ opening conferences at the University College, Cork, Ireland (2005), AEDEI International Conference at the University of Valladolid, Spain (2006) and St. Mary’s College’s Symposium (England) (2011). Since 2002, she has been a member of the Advisory Board of the “University Open to senior citizens” Program, instituted by the Pro-Rectory of Extension and Culture. In 2008, she was honored with the publication “Ireland in Brazil” (560 pages) with collaboration of writers, critics and scholars from several countries; in the same year, she received the title of "Doctor Honoris Causa on Literature" from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. Currently, she is an Associate Professor (Senior), teaching disciplines and supervising dissertations, theses, and postdocs in the Department of Modern Languages at the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (University of São Paulo).
