Biography
Master in Applied Linguistics from the State University of Campinas (2000), PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Penn State University (2005) and postdoc from the University of Bath (United Kingdom) (2013). Became a Full Professor in 2015 with the thesis “A promoção do letramento acadêmico em inglês por meio do ensino desenvolvimental: contribuições da teoria histórico-cultural” (“The promotion of academic literacy in English through a developmental teaching: contributions of historic-cultural theory”).
Her research interests involve a) foreign languages teaching and learning aspects under a vygostkyan perspective, commonly known as Cultural-Historical theory or Cultural-Historical Activity Theory, b) developmental education (Davydov, 1988; Hedegaard, 2002) for teaching writing in several institutional contexts. Her research group “The Cultural Social-Historical
Activity and foreign language teaching-learning” (LEVYG), registered at CNPq, researches the above themes and she currently has a special interest in English teachers’ education for academic purposes and plagiarism. Within this group, they have created the LLAC – USP’s Academic Literacy Laboratory. This laboratory, based on vygostkyan principles, comprises a space in which the dialectical relationship between theory and practice about academic literacy is realized, and in which teaching and learning of academic literacy in Portuguese as first language, and English and French as second language are promoted.
